Heather Widmayer

Before Amazon.com was a household name, before you could buy velvet Elvises on Ebay and back when e-mail was a novelty, Heather Widmayer began her own website design firm, SPINNE Website Services, in 1996. As a consultant she has created sites for commercial, military, and non-profit organizations, including the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, Carnegie Mellon University, Baltimore Dredges, and Vintage Senior Services.

A Progressive Web Entrepreneur

Don't be fooled by Heather's down-to-earth, unassuming exterior. Underneath she's a progressive entrepreneur with an MBA from Loyola College and a technical background in financial systems, CMM software development methodology, industrial products and systems, and international trade.

Heather's ever-growing client list is a testament to her talents and abilities. Over the years, Heather has grown to be a part of the team at those organizations where she maintains their websites on a regular basis. She learns about their products, services, and customers inside and out so that she can provide the best recommendations for their site design and strategy.

Background in Business Analysis

In addition to her independent consulting, Heather was a business analyst with Mellon Financial Corporation in Pittsburgh, where she helped design Web-based EIPP systems (Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment) for large corporate and government customers. While with Mellon, she also wrote technical requirements documents, wrote and executed system test plans, and managed system development projects, following Mellon's CMM Level 3 methodology.

Specialization in Information Architecture and
Business Process Reengineering

Heather focuses her talents on Information Architecture and Business Process Reengineering. She loves to delve into the details of how a system works and then reengineer the process to make it more efficient and intuitive for the people who use it.

Heather tackles computerized processes, manual processes, and especially tasks involving human-computer interaction. "You can really learn a lot about the problem-areas of a system when you watch people working with it first-hand," explains Heather. "Usability is the key to a successful system."

In addition to her MBA, Heather is multi-lingual with a B.A. in French and Mass Communication from Towson State University. She has studied design and photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and taught information design and web development at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

All Work and No Play? No way! When Heather has some spare time, you can usually find her hiking, kayaking, or taking on new projects in her woodworking shop. She also enjoys singing and playing the piano.
